MATCH PREVIEW // Formartine United

Competition: Evening Express Aberdeenshire Cup Match: Formartine United vs Deveronvale Venue: New Lodge Park, Pitmedden

Date: Wednesday 8th September 2021 Kick Off: 20:00

Ahead of tomorrow’s Evening Express Aberdeenshire Cup Semi-Final against Formartine United, we caught up with our gaffer, our captain and our goalkeeper to preview the big match!

Vale manager Craig Stewart is upbeat, despite the threat posed by a Formartine side who currently sit in 9th place in the league, with 4 wins and 4 defeats from their opening 8 fixtures. “As a squad we are really looking forward to playing in a semi-final. It is a great opportunity to get to a final and that’s where we want to be. We go into the game with a bit of confidence after our last few league games (3-3 vs Huntly, 2-2 vs Wick Academy and 3-0 vs Strathspey Thistle). Formartine are a good side and we will have to be at our best to get a result”.

Skipper Ross Aitken, who scored the Vale’s second goal in the weekend’s victory over the Strathy Jags, was happy with the overall quality of Saturday’s win. “Saturday was a much better all-round performance and an important 3 points. Everyone is buzzing for the semi-final mid-week. We know the quality that Formartine have but I am confident if we start the game well we are more than capable of getting a result”.

Between the sticks, goalkeeper Sean McIntosh is hoping for a quiet evening on Wednesday. “Well we are all delighted to be in a semi-final so early on in the season and hopefully we can turn that into a final for everyone to look forward to. It’s a massive game for the club and I’m really enjoying my time here so far”.

Our semi-final against Formartine at New Lodge Park kicks off at 8pm on Wednesday 8th September. We’ll be building up to kick-off on our social media channels and will have live updates on our Twitter page.

C’mon the Vale!
