Vale’s Grant Noble is looking forward to getting the campaign underway. Now 34 and in his second spell with the club, the attack-minded midfielder has racked up over 60 goals in a red shirt and has been part of league and cup winning teams in his career.
“This year has seen a bit of a turnover within the squad and the new additions have settled in and shown up well so far. We’re a relatively young team (with the exception of myself and Robbie Allan taking the average age up a wee bit) so it’s going to be exciting watching our progress and development. Hopefully we’ll compete well, produce positive performances on the pitch and finish as high as possible in the league”.
With years of Princess Royal Park experience throughout his career so far, Grant is especially excited by the return of supporters to the ground.
“It will be great to have fans back in too. Football, especially at our level, is just not the same without them. There’s no better feeling than playing in front of the Valley Crew when in full voice”!
Vale manager Craig Stewart was delighted to secure Grant’s signature on a contract extension earlier this year. "His experience and influence are very important to our squad and he is a very positive influence on our younger players. Whilst he has been playing more in midfield over the last couple of seasons, he maintains an eye for a goal as his scoring record shows”.
Looking ahead to 2021/22, Grant is hoping to make a positive impact again and hopefully add to his medal collection. “I always set myself a personal goals/assists target at start of the season (but I’ll tell you what it is at the end of the campaign!). I’m just hoping that I can stay injury free, continue to contribute to the team and enjoy my football as I get older. I would love to win something again for the Vale before my legs give up, there is nothing better than winning trophies. The only cup I’ve not won in Highland League football is the League Cup and it would be brilliant if we could win that, or any cup for that matter, before I finish"!
Deveronvale vs Brora Rangers kicks-off the new season this Saturday at 3pm. Princess Royal Park is open for business, with a cash-gate in operation on the day.
