Deveronvale’s SHFL 2017-18 season came to a close last night with a 5-0 victory against a stuffy Fort William side. It was the proverbial “game of two halves” with Vale struggling for consistency in the first half then scoring 5 times in the second half and creating numerous other chances. That win means we will finish the season in 8th place, a marked improvement on last year’s 15th place, with a win percentage of 47.6% against last season’s 23.7%. It is also a much better finish than the 15th place predicted by the P&J before the start of the season.
The thanks for this achievement must go to Steve Dolan, his management team and the players for their application and efforts during a season which has been made all the more difficult by the bad weather we faced in December, January and February. We also need to thank our sponsors, especially our main sponsor The Spotty Bag Shop, and all the helpers who give up their time on matchdays to ensure that games, and all that surrounds them, are run as smoothly as possible. Our thanks also go to the loyal Vale support who come along game after game to cheer the team on and to the staff at Princess Royal Sports and Community Trust.
Although the season is now finished for us, work is already started on the preparations for season 2018-19. To maintain the performance levels and, hopefully, to move the Club further forward we need all the usual inputs in terms of operational and matchday help, support for our commercial programme and fans turning up on matches days to support the team. As we get into this preparation, the Board and Management plan to have a “Season 2017-18 and Onwards” meeting at Princess Royal Park on Thursday 3rd May starting at 7.30pm and would strongly encourage shareholders, supporters and sponsors to attend to provide their input. Deveronvale is your club and we hope you’ll take the opportunity to attend.
