Briefly outline your football career prior to joining Deveronvale?
Signed for Cove Rangers in 1995 and played there for two years, then signed for Rothes and stayed there for four years, before joining Vale.
Which year(s) did you play for Deveronvale? Who signed you for the club, and what attracted you to join ?
I joined the Vale in the summer of 2001. Gregg Carrol signed me from Rothes. The quality at the club and the direction the Vale were going in was a key factor. Plus I was wanting to win medals.
What are your fondest memories of your time with the club?
Winning the Qualifying Cup in 2001/02 was a great day for the players, and especially for the club. We beat Buckie Thistle 5-1 at Keith, and the celebrations went on well into the night ! ( I remember a certain Mr Anderson getting sent off that day ! ) Every away game was great. The banter on the bus was superb… taking the p*ss out of Chizo was a highlight !!!
What is the most memorable game(s) you played in for Vale, and why?
The Scottish Cup game against Ayr United in 2001/02 at home was great. It was the first time the club had ever reached the third round, and coming up against some great players was an experience on it’s own. Pity about the score!! ( Vale lost 6-0 ) Beating Spartans in Edinburgh in the previous round was something else, it was a tough game physically but we came through it in the end, eventually winning the game 2-1. Again, our fans were brilliant that day.
Who were the characters at the club ?
Hard to choose the characters in the team, I would just say the whole team was full of characters. Committee ? Well Mr Rennie always had something to say about your performances, but he was always good to me.
Who were the best players you played with at the Vale and why?
I could be here a long time listing them for skill and quality, but here we go -McKenzie, Molby, Brooner, Dolan, Yogi, Chizo, Monty. The list could go on and on… those players had goals plus a good defensive record.
And who were the best players you played against, and why?
Michael Stephen of the Broch was a bit of a nightmare.. he made you run quite a lot. Richie Hart of Brora Rangers had plenty of skills under his belt. Ian Polworth of the Clach was a strong and physical player who was always up for a rumble !
What have you done in a football sense since you left the Vale ?
Signed for Cove Rangers then moved down to the Junior Ranks for Culter JFC.
What does a normal Saturday afternoon entail for you these days ?
Still playing for Culter
