DOB: 17/06/79 Briefly outline your football career prior to joining Deveronvale?
I started off at Cove Rangers at the age of 15, and spent two seasons at Allan Park before joining Culter. At Culter I finished the top scorer before being bought by Turriff United during the close season break. I was only at Turriff for a few months before Gregg Carrol took me to Deveronvale.
Which year(s) did you play for Deveronvale? Who signed you for the club, and what attracted you to join ?
I signed during season 1999/2000 just as Gregg Carrol had newly become the manager. Gregg signed me just after he had brought in Robbie Brown, which helped me as I had known Robbie from the juvenile leagues. I had also known Yogi, Jamie Watt, Ritchie Singer, and Tony Yeats, as they were all my age from Aberdeen.
What are your fondest memories of your time with the club?
Any story involving Darren Nicol ! The guy is the funniest person I have ever met. The best story was when we had an away game at Wick, and on the way home Darren ‘held up’ a petrol station ( with a toy gun he’d bought in the shop ! ) and stole the team bus in the space of an hour !
What is the most memorable game(s) you played in for Vale, and why?
Every game was good, especially as we were challenging for all the trophies, but I think my favourite game would have been my debut against Elgin City, as I set up Darren McAllister for the first goal, and scored the winner in a 2-1 victory.
Who were the characters at the club ?
I met loads of very nice people at the Vale, such as Lennie Binnie ( legend ! ), Carol Metcalfe, Stewart McPherson, Darren McAllister, Chiz, Alan Still, and ‘Auld Mo’ who claimed to be my Dad for years !!!? The list could go on and on….
Who were the best players you played with at the Vale and why?
For skills and ball control Mike McKenzie was brilliant, but in my time Nigel Montgomery was always a step ahead at the back, and was also accompanied by Hendo, Dippy and Matty Kinghorn in the best defence I can remember
