Our third inductee is a Scottish international who spent season 1977-78 on loan at the Club from Aberdeen. Jim Leighton was an ever present that season, appearing in 40 games.
He went on to have a very a successful career with Aberdeen, Manchester United, Dundee and Hibernian and to earn 91 caps for Scotland - Jim is Scotland’s most capped goalkeeper and second only to Kenny Dalglish in the most capped players list. In addition, Jim went to four World Cup Finals and won two Scottish Premier League Championship medals, four Scottish Cup medals, one Scottish League Cup medal, and a FA Cup winners medal and a European Cup Winners' Cup and Super Cup winners medal.
Whilst Jim spent only a short time at Deveronvale the Club is proud to have played a small part in his success story.
