Vale travelled to Station Park, Nairn on Saturday looking for their first points of the season after getting off to a disappointing start last Saturday.
Following Wednesday's excellent result at Cove, Gregg Carrol saw fit to keep the same starting eleven which had started the game in Aberdeen although he was in the healthy position of having a full squad of twenty-one fit players to choose from.
The 'wee county' have made some decent signings over the summer months none other than goalkeeper, Michael Rae whom they snapped up from Buckie Thistle. Rae is regarded as one of the best in the Highland League and was also joined at Nairn by Mark Holmes, who also played his football at Victoria Park last season.
Perfect overhead conditions matched by the excellent Station Park playing surface greeted the players as Nairn won the toss and Vale kicked off.
The visitors were quick to settle and Chisholm was unlucky to see his guided header clip the top of the Nairn crossbar on it's way over after good work by McAllister down the right flank. Rae dropped a high ball under pressure from Murray but no red jerseys were on hand to capitalise on the keeper's mistake. McKenzie's low cross saw Rae save with his legs from Chisholm before the Banffers took a deserved lead.
Stephen's cross with his unfavoured right was missed by the "wee county" defence leaving Murray all on his own at the back post to clip the ball over Rae from 6 yards. Another great move down the right saw Barron happy to head clear from under his own cross bar as Vale looked to build on their early lead.
Sanderson was yellow carded for downing Dolan as he ran at the Nairn defence.
On the home side's first serious attack of the match they pulled level. Kellacher's fiercely hit volley from 20 yards gave Speirs no chance after the ball was allowed to bounce about the edge of the Vale box without being properly cleared.
Brown fired a weak effort straight down the throat of Rae as Vale tried to hit back. The Nairn number one then saved the day for the home side when he blocked Murray's close range effort after the Vale striker had danced through the county defence.
Sanderson came close at the other end with a snap shot from 20 yards after Anderson had mistimed his tackle on the Nairn midfielder. Just before the half time interval Rae handled a back pass resulting in a free kick to the visitors inside the penalty area but McKenzie fired straight into the defensive wall and Rae picked up the loose ball on his goal line.
