Forres Mechanics visited Banff for the first time this season looking to continue their recent good form after an indifferent start to the campaign.
The home side were also keen to pick up the three points and keep up the pressure on table toppers Inverurie Locos.
A damp & miserable day greeted the players as Vale kicked off into the stiff breeze blowing down Princess Royal Park.
Speirs was called into action early in the game, making amends with a good block from Morrison after the keeper had misjudged a Rowley wind-assisted long ranger and spilled the ball into the attacker's path.
At the other end McKenzie forced Vale's first corner of the match and Kinghorn struck the foot of the post with an 'in-swinger', which completely fooled McRitchie, however the ball fell kindly for the keeper rolling out of play for a goal kick.
Murray played a neat 'one-two' with Chisholm at the edge of the box but ex-Vale defender Dod Simmers was on hand to head the ball to safety. Urquhart's weak effort didn't trouble McRitchie although the nice lead-up play between Dolan and McKenzie deserved a better end result.
Murray might have put the homeside into the lead as he latched on to a Brown pass, in behind the Mechanics back line, but McRitchie spread himself well to deflect 'Molby's' effort over the top.
Vale had a real let off on the quarter hour mark when Speirs was penalised for holding onto the ball for more than the statuary seven seconds. A quick free kick was taken and Connelly fired the ball into the net but referee Grant chalked the goal off, as he hadn't blown his whistle. The re-taken set piece by Simmers was blocked by the Vale defensive wall, much to the relief of the home fans.
Just to rub salt into the visitors' wounds Vale took the lead five minutes later.
Dolan crossed from the right and CHISHOLM out-jumped McRitchie to head the ball into the unguarded net from the edge of the penalty area.
Simmers came to the Mechanics rescue again with an excellent challenge on Murray in the box as the Vale striker looked to pull the trigger with only McRitchie to beat.
Dolan shaved the upright before Franny More broke clear on the right for the visitors but the ex-Vale winger held onto the ball too long and was eventually crowded out.
Murray passed up another great opportunity for the homesters when Chisholm put him through on goal. McRitchie came to his sides' rescue as he stood big and save the pint-sized striker's effort with his legs.
Half Time:-1-0
Dlugonski was forced to clear off his own goal line following a Forres corner which eluded Speirs and at the other end McKenzie fired wide when well placed, as Vale broke quickly.
The Vale goal had a great escape with an hour gone when More was first to meet a Rowley centre but fortunately for the home side the winger sliced his shot across goal allowing Dlugonski the chance to hack clear.
McRitchie was sensationally red carded two minutes later when he was adjudged by the far-side linesman to have carried the ball outside his box, as he attempted to collect a Brown through ball.
After the dust had settled Mike MCKENZIE blasted the resultant free kick past substitute goalkeeper Rae from 18 yards.
The homeside went further ahead three minutes later as the visitors failed to settle following their loss of both regular keeper and player manager Gordon Connelly, who had made way for the keeper change.
MURRAY firing home from close range after the top scorer had danced past a couple of defenders and the substitute keeper en route. MURRAY then took his tally for the season to fourteen when he headed past Rae from close range off a deep cross from substitute Nigel Montgomery.
McKenzie had a drive blocked before the Vale went 'Nap' for the second time in three days.
This time the provider was substitute Colin MacRonald who picked out Mark CHISHOLM all alone in the Mechanics penalty box with a pinpoint cross from the left flank. The free scoring midfielder applied the finishing touch with a strong downward header past the bewildered Rae from 6 yards.
The Banffers were denied a sixth goal by that man again Dod Simmers, the Forres defender thumping a McKenzie net bound strike off his own goal line.
Near the end Ian Murray's attempted lob from all of 40 yards had the crowd on their feet but the ball sailed just over the cross bar with Rae well beaten.
Full Time:-5-0
Vale's next match is this Wednesday when they travel to Fraserburgh for the Semi-final of the Aberdeenshire Shield.
