A captivating encounter between local rivals Broch and Vale was decided on a dramatic penalty shoot out with the Banff side winning the nail-biting spot kicks four-three to earn the right to play Inverurie Locos in next week's final.
After the statutory ninety minutes the teams were locked at three goals a-piece and when neither side could find the net during the thirty minutes of added time Fraser Speirs emerged as the Vale hero saving two of the Broch's penalties to send Vale through.
The Banffers lined-up without the influence of Robbie Brown in the middle of the park with Ryan Pressley deputising in his place.
Broch were missing last season's player of the year, Mike Stephen who out due to a thigh knock picked up last Saturday.
Vale kicked off the match but were soon under pressure as the home side set their stall out playing early balls into the channels and using the pace of McLaren and Wemyss' to pin back Vale's full backs, Dolan & Kinghorn.
Kinghorn had to whip the ball clear under pressure from Keith before Urquhart tested Gordon with a 20-yard drive, which the keeper held comfortably.
Murray then had a free kick easily saved by the home keeper after Chisholm was brought down en route to goal. Gordon's brilliant save from Pressley was the shape of things to come when he clawed the ball to safety off the well-hit drive, which was heading for the top corner. Mackie then hacked the ball clear at the far stick a following a Vale corner which eluded both the front post defender and keeper Gordon.
At the other end Keith came very close to opening the scoring when he headed just over following a corner kick. This was the early warning for the visitors defence which they never took heed of because minutes later a carbon copy ball was played into their box and Fleming rose unchallenged to head Broch into the lead.
Worse was to follow for the Vale defence two minutes later when Paul Keith swept the ball home from 8 yards leaving Speirs no chance, punished a rare mistake by Scott Anderson who had failed to clear his lines. McKenzie's angled effort went just wide of the far post before Billy Gordon expertly touched Murray's low drive around the post, for a fruitless corner.
Gordon was again the hero for the home side with a finger tip save from Murray as the striker looked sure to score.
Vale's pressure was relentless and Dlugonski was next to try his luck but Gordon again saved, this time with his legs.
With half time approaching Vale forced a series of corners but failed to take advantage and at the other end, a typical quick break-away by the Broch almost produced the killer third goal but Wemyss screwed his shot wide with only Speirs to beat.

Half Time: 2-0

Vale finally pulled a goal back thanks to a great dribble and pass by Steve Dolan which split the home defence to find Matty KINGHORN in the Broch box, the defender's fiercely hit shot from the corner of the six yard box went through the despairing Gordon's body and nestled into the top corner of the net. Speirs did well to cut out McLaren's driven cross as Broch tried to restore their two-goal advantage. McKenzie forced another fine one handed save from Gordon before Vale pulled level with again Steve "Dippy" Dolan the instigator. The defender played a neat one-two with Mike McKenzie 20 yards from goal before running on to force Gordon into a save low to his weaker right foot. However the Broch number one could only parry the ball across the face of goal leaving Mark CHISHOLM with the easiest of tasks of knocking the ball into the unguarded net from 4 yards. The script was written a minute later when ex-Broch player Ian MURRAY, who was subjected to some verbal on his return to Bellslea, scored a superb third for the visitors when he noticed Gordon off his line and brilliantly lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box sending the large travelling support, who were stacked behind the goal, into raptures. Broch threw everything at the visitors as they desperately tried to stay in the competition and Milne wasted a good chance when he blasted over with a free kick from the edge of the area. However with only five minutes remaining Hunter rose unchallenged in the box to head home past the stranded Speirs from 6 yards with the Vale defence looking at each other in total dismay.

Full Time: 3-3

The additional thirty minutes saw few chances created although McKenzie came close for the visitors with a 16-yard effort, which flew over and at the other end the ball fizzed across the Vale goalmouth with no black and white shirts on hand to make it count. Both sides had put so much into the game that play became a little ragged and this coupled with a referee who seemed intent on spoiling the game with petty fouls and needless bookings marred the majority of extra time. Steve Dolan carved out the last chance of the game when he played a one-two with McKenzie before lashing the ball high over with only Gordon to beat. When the inevitable penalties came around Vale scored through messers McAllister, Montgomery and Murray with L. Stephen's effort easily saved by Gordon leaving Mike McKenzie to score the all-important fourth for the Banffers.
