Vale kicked off after a minute's silence was observed for the Queen Mother and were soon on the attack. Montgomery picking out Ian Murray with a free kick which the striker couldn't quite control and then minutes later the same player volleying just wide of Bremner's left-hand post.
Chisholm was inches from reaching a More tantalising cross and then Dolan fired low across the face of goal but no one was on hand to turn the ball home. Vale were well on top and Brown tested Bremner with a half volley, which the big keeper dealt with comfortably.
Referee Duff was forced to book two Huntly players as the game threatened to boil over. From a Montgomery free kick Small sliced over the top of his own cross bar with Bremner well beaten before Kinghorn received a rare yellow card for tripping Addicoat as he raced away from the Vale rearguard.
Stewart picked up Montgomery's misplaced pass but the visiting defence re-grouped in time to clear the danger. Watt was unlucky to see his well-hit drive cannon off Brown on it's route to goal and at the other end there were shouts for a penalty when the ball seemed to strike Montgomery's arm in the box, however referee Duff waved play on.
Tommy Wilson was very lucky to only receive a yellow card after a crunching tackle on Watt from behind which saw the striker go off the pitch for treatment.
