The opening fixture for next season takes up a familiar look with Vale's opener on August 2nd against Lossiemouth a repeat of last seasons first match. However this season has one minor exception, Vale will open the season as Champions. The opening fixture will give Vale a chance to exact revenge from the only team to defeat them, in the corresponding fixture, on their Historic Championship Season |

Deveronvale F.C. Executive Secretary Stewart McPherson received a totally unexpected, but very welcome phone call last week from former player-coach Billy Smith who now lives in South Africa.
Stewart explained "A couple of years ago we ran a competition in association with the Banffshire Journal and the Website to find the player our fans regarded as the greatest Deveronvale player ever. Billy Smith who was Vale player-coach between 1957 and 1967 was the winner, and we managed to track him down to his home in South Africa where he’s spent the past 35 years, so we could send him his award. Since then we’ve kept in touch, and I was delighted when he phoned last week to say he was coming over to take part in Aberdeen F.C Centenary Celebrations, as Billy was part of the Dons championship winning side of 1954/55. He intimated that he would like to make a trip through to Banff whilst he was in the area, and we were honoured to have him and his son Greig as our guests at Princess Royal Park at the weekend. We managed to arrange a wee surprise get together for Billy and some of his former teammates – Reggie Morrison, Charlie Cormack and Eddie Bruce, along with Sandy Barclay who was on the committee at the time. It was a truly nostalgic occasion, as it was the first time they’d met in over 30 years, and they took the time to reminisce about their playing days at Banff.”
Billy remarked, "It was great to see my old friends again, and good to see how well the Vale are doing these days. It’s a brilliant achievement to have finally won the league title, and the facilities are excellent…the place certainly looks a bit different to when I played here. I’m delighted for them." |

Deveronvale Assistant Manager Billy Anderson has left his position at the Club to take the main top job at Huntly. Billy who has been Gregg Carrol's assistant takes up the post with immediate effect: Exectutive Secretary Stewart McPherson commented:
It's obviously disappointing to lose part of the management team which has won our club it's first ever championship success. Billy has been involved with the club as a player, manager, and assistant manager on several occasions over many years, and for the past season as assistant to Gregg. We wish him every success at Huntly, where I'm sure he'll do a great job." |

Deveronvale's outstanding achievements this season were recognised at Firday night's Aberdeenshire Sports Council Awards Ceremony with presentations to manager Gregg Carrol and long-serving player Steve Dolan. The event which was held at the Betteridge Centre, Newtonhill saw Gregg Carrol receive an award for 'Male Coach of the Year', whilst Steve Dolan was presented with an award for 'Male Outstanding Achievement'. Gregg said afterwards " I'm absolutely delighted to have been nominated in the first place for such a prestigous award, and to receive this recognition from the Sports Council is fantastic. It's been a magnificent season for everyone at the club, and I've received tremendous support from the players, management, and fans who've all been brilliant. I'm also happy for Stevie, who has made an outstanding contribution to the club for many years now." Steve Dolan was unable to attend the ceremony as he was travelling south to take part in the Four Nations Tournament in Wales, but was recognised by the Council for his outstanding achievements this season. 'Dippy' has just completed 10 years loyal service with the club, made his 400th appearance in February, and captained Scotland in last year's Four Nations Tournament in England. Steve said " I obviously feel honoured to have won this award, and it's just a pity I couldn't have been there to accept it myself. It's been a great season for the whole team, and I've thoroughly enjoyed being part of it. There is a superb team spirit at the club, and this makes all the difference !" Deveronvale were also nominated for 'Team of the Year' but this year the award went to Ellon Rugby Club. Executive Secretary Stewart McPherson said "It would have been nice to have won this one as well, but we can't be greedy. We've won the Team of the Year for the past two years, and you've got to remember that the Sports Council has to consider all sports and not just football. I think Gregg and 'Dippy's' recognition has been richly deserved for their efforts this season." |

It wasn't to be for Vale as their season ended with another runner up spot in the Highland League Cup. A Keith dominated first half saw the Kynoch club 2-0 up and they increased their lead in the second half before Vale started a comeback. Two goals from Ian Murray put Vale right back in it, and as referee MacDonald pointed to the spot with six minutes to go, the wee striker had a chance to equalise, and get his 50th of the season, but the keeper saved, and the trophy went to Keith. |

Deveronvale play their 52nd competitive game of the season against Banffshire rivals Keith at Harlaw Park, Inverurie tomorrow. A long season, which has 28 league games and 14 cup ties as well as 10 friendlies, starting back on the 12th of July against Golspie. Once again the players and management will be asked to put on a show for the Valley Faithful, for one last time this season, and hopefully bring down the curtain on the greatest season in the clubs history, before they can put their feet up, with the exception of the International contingent travelling to Wales. Vale are hoping that it's third final lucky after failing in the last two finals against Forres. |
