Saturday's result and performance was very pleasing. The effort, work rate and commitment we got on Saturday from everyone was excellent and we fully merited our win. We managed to settle after a nervy first 5 mins and grew in confidence from then on. Getting our noses in front allowed us to do that and we kept the back door shut with some good defending and hard work from all the players. Once we managed to get the 2nd goal we again didn't allow them back into things and went on to create some excellent chances to finish things off. The 3rd goal came from long term absentee Gordon Carstairs and I think everybody involved with the club was absolutely delighted for him, after working so hard to get himself back. We now are away to Nairn next week in what will be another very difficult game, but will go there with a bit of confidence and we must try to maintain the standards shown on Saturday.

We came away from the match at Inverurie very disappointed that we didn’t have anything to show for our efforts. The first half performance was excellent but the goal immediately after half-time turned the match completely and we never really recovered. The first half started pretty badly with us conceding a very soft penalty (for the 2nd game in a row) but James pulled off a great save and we grew in confidence from there. Once we got the goal we had 2 or 3 chances to get the 2nd but we never managed to take them. Conceding the goal within 30 seconds of the re-start put us on the back foot and the things we did in the first half, we did not do well enough in the second. The 2nd goal was down to individual error and we need to cut these out if we are to climb the table. Although locos might have put the game to bed with a few good chances they had, we were chasing the game and with a bit of luck, we might have scored / had a penalty in the last 10 mins. Unfortunately that wasn’t to be and we now have to pick ourselves up and get together for another tough game next week against Keith.

Going back to the Keith game in midweek, we were all disappointed to lose out on penalties in the end, but I was delighted with the attitude and application from the players. The team performance and several individual performances were excellent and we were very unfortunate to come away as the losing side.
On Saturday, we managed to pick up our first 3 points with a deserved win against high flying Fraserburgh. We probably played better in the cup game at Keith and it was a tough game from start to finish but the work rate from our players was excellent and we fully merited the win because of that. As I said earlier we have had some excellent individual performances over the last two games and two of our young lads, Graeme Rodger and Craig Cowie, along with veterans Mark Chisholm and Steve Dolan have probably been top of that list, although everyone has played their part.
We now go to Inverurie on Friday night for our next challenge. Again this will be a difficult game but it is one that we can go in with a bit of confidence and we all look forward to it.

Our difficult start to the season continued on Saturday with our loss to Clach. We will not look for excuses and quite simply we are not performing to a level that we need to be. The rub of the green certainly was not in our favour but we need to make our own luck and have the desire to work even harder when things are not going our way. The first half hour of the game we pretty much controlled but we needed to have a bit more energy and drive about us to get the first goal. The goals we lost, the free kick we can't do much about as it's a great strike, but we have given the ball away cheaply in the lead up to the free kick. The 2nd was going way off target but, when things are not going your way these things always seem to happen.
The 2nd half we have created plenty chances, including a penalty, but we have not converted any of these and we now find ourselves in this position. We can do one of two things at the moment, we either lie down, go into our shells and accept it or we take it on the chin and come out fighting for one another to get us through this.

We got off to a terrible start on Saturday, where we didn't defend crossed balls anywhere near well enough and conceded bad goals because of that, 3 from set plays.
To concede 2 goals in the opening 6 mins, to then fight our way back into it before allowing 2 other goals to kill it off is very hard to take.
No matter what level of opposition you play against, if you hand goals on a plate for them, you will always struggle.
We will again work and work on being able to deal with these situations, first of all stopping the cross if we can, then making sure we attack the ball if it does get in. When we did score through Michele we certainly had the upper hand at that time and needed to stay tight defensively. That did not happen and we paid the price for that.
We now have to pick ourselves up and look to get a better team performance in our next game.

Pre season has gone quite well and the players have worked tremendously hard since they have come back. We asked the players to look after themselves in the summer and to their credit they came back in good shape. We continually say that players at this level must not hope to get their fitness over the 2 nights a week we train, but go and do their own bit to keep themselves in good nick. The games we have played so far have been encouraging, certainly still room for improvement but we've had a good team-work ethic that bodes well for the season ahead. The other positive has been the emergence of other young players pushing hard for a starting place. The way the Club is at this time, these players are the future of Deveronvale FC and we must be patient and encourage them as much as we can. We have a very tough start to the season, but it is one we are all looking forward to. It will be a big challenge for us and we can't wait to get started.
