| The Man Behind The Team |

As the seasons end is now well and tuly behind us, much of the praise. and rightly so has been heaped on Murray, MacKenzie, Dlugonski etc etc. But what about the man who's team this is? Gregg Carrol picked up the reigns as Manager on the 8th Dec 1999, since then the changes on the park started to match the off the field improvements. In an Interview with deveronvale.co.uk we spoke to the Man Behind The Team
After having no hesitation to saying yes to the job, he has admited "Having been in the job a couple of weeks I did think what have I let myself in for". In his first season season Gregg was in charge for 18 games.
Season 2000-01 saw Greggs first full season, and Vale captured their first piece of silverware since 1994-95, the Aberdeenshire Cup, and a Scottish Cup venture to Partick Thistle that Carrol describes as his most memorable match ..... everything about it and the crowd after it, are they not in the Premier League now !!!...he added Vale finished 6th, and the Valley Crew could see the beginning of a change to the balance of power within the HFL.
2001-02 season was to be a nail biter for Vale fans, another Scottish Cup Run after Vale demolished Buckie Thistle 5-1 in the Qualifying Cup Final, and bad weather meant Vale were well behind in games, eight tiring games in April set up a title decider at Fraserburgh infront of 3,000 people Vale lost 2-1, and the title went to Charlie Duncans team.
Winning the Championship has always been a holy grail for followers of Deveronvale, well this season saw the Trophy make a reservation at Princess Royal Park. Astonishingly Vale lost only one league match all seaosn, and that the first game of the season, went unbeaten away from home, bagged the Aberdeenshire shield and lost out in two cup finals. Gregg Carrol's team played entertaining flowing football, the like Vale supporters have only dreamed about. His managerial record is probably second to none in the HFL his stats make impressive reading
| WON | % | LOST | % | DRAWN | % | | League | 55 | 58 | 19 | 20 | 21 | 22 | | Cup | 27 | 61 | 14 | 32 | 3 | 7 | | Total | 82 | 59 | 33 | 24 | 24 | 17 |
As usual Gregg's modesty shone through, he gave credit to his players for his impressive stat list "A managers record can only be decided by the players he has, and I think they have all been great over the last four years"
So what now for the Clubs most successfull Manager? "The future of the club is in good hands with the directors, the obvious ambition must be third division, but only as part as a promotion and relegation basis and with a tight control on the finance of the club." As far as transfer talk, well, he's keeping his cards close to his chest.... for the moment. |

| Dlugonski Scoops The Young Player Award |

Bryan Dlugonski has been voted Sunday Post Young Player Of The Year. Local lad, Dougal in his first season with Vale has had many outstanding performances at the back for Vale. Not only that his "Dougal Dashes" down the flanks have brought him a goal or two this season, as well as the goal of the round for his quality strike against Morton in the Scottish Cup. A well deserved award. |
